Man vs Machine: Rd 2 Heartless cover

A few weeks ago, I blogged about the realization I had about the 808s and Heartbreak album, here. Well, man has chimed in. Man has voiced the sentiments and emotions of the machine and have it's felt...

I actually really like the original version. Pretty damn good for a machine. And I give Kanye much credit for the DNA of the song. Here man proves himself to be considerably more evolved. Adapting and being even more punctuating, by doing a great job, live.

The Fray everyone. Well done.

Kareoke Game- Stepped up...

I was at the weekly Kareoke Killed the Cat at Brooklyn Bowl. I had been to a few others at LPR, but this was the first at the Brooklyn Bowl. It was fun. As usual, my friend Kareem performs. I was a little late to the stage because I decided to go to the bathroom as they went on. That always happens. You wait, then just as you go for it, they are on.

He has a special treat planned for his performance. Stripping and mooning? Killing a chicken onstage? Guess you will have to watch...

Well done, Kareem. Well done.

Reminisce: Let it die

I heard this song on my iPod this morning and it got me thinking about the first time I had heard it.

I worked at this place called BrightHouse once upon a time. I met this guy there that I credit with changing my musical landscape forever. It was a guy named Darin. We were a mac agency and had our computers on a network where we could listen to each other's iTunes. This was some new shit back then. Well I loved Darin's music. He had gotten tons from his friends from all over the world. So there were releases on there that wouldn't come out here for a few years. He once let me load as much as I wanted from his computer. The floodgates were opened. And mind you, I can't swim.

One of the CD's at the time was this new girl named Feist. She was a part of the "supergroup" Broken Social Scene. Btw this band has 19+ members.

Well I had a habit of listening to my iPod on random while I sleep. Strangely a certain genre of music doesn't help me sleep better. They can all work.

I took my first solo trip out of the country and visited Costa Rica. I was in my hotel bed and this came on in my sleep. This was the first time I was completely sleep but for some reason I became aware of this song's lyrics in a unconscious state. It was like I awoke, and sat there attentive, but I was still sleep. This song was beautiful to me. The lyricism here was insane to me. Sweet but sad. My favorite part is bolded...

Let it die and get out of my mind
We don't see eye to eye
Or hear ear to ear

Don't you wish that we could forget that kiss
And see this for what it is
That we're not in love

The saddest part of a broken heart
Isn't the ending so much as the start

It was hard to tell just how I felt
To not recognize myself
I started to fade away

And after all it won't take long to fall in love
Now I know what I don't want
I learned that with you

The saddest part of a broken heart
Isn't the ending so much as the start
The tragedy starts from the very first spark
Losing your mind for the sake of your heart

The saddest part of a broken heart
Isn't the ending so much as the start

Nothing is a coincidence. As I am typing this, one of my favorite Broken Social Scene's songs is playing. "Our face split the coast in half"

Oh how soon they forget...

Remember when I posted about a bad break up a little while ago? Well you know that awkward moment when you see each other for the first time again? It's always weird.

Well today I was shopping at Home Depot getting some supplies for a project that I am working on. I am shopping with my big blue Ikea bag. So I was prepared. I gathered my things and walk out the door. I see him. Franco. He is laughing and joking and sees me. I am thinking "Ok- this is gonna be uncomfortable." He says to me,
Franco: Hey man, How are you? Remember me, I took you home once.

Rodney: (thinking to myself) Dude, you 25 mins late!.

Rodney: I'm good man.

Franco: You good man? You need a lift? Need a ride?

Rodney: Nah, I just gonna walk. Don't have that much.

I am thinking, just like some insensitive dude trying to get some action again. Did he just think I was gonna forget what he said to me? Shhhiiitt. My memory bad, but not as bad as his evidently. His pockets get to hurting and wipe the memory clean like some Men in Black shit.

I walked home chillin. It was cold, but wasn't that cold.

Nike Air inventor Frank Rudy passes away

"Most of us have owned at least one of his inventions in a lifetime as Frank Rudy is known as the person responsible for inventing the Nike Air we have grown to love. Aged 84, Rudy passed away in his Californian home on December 13th. He was an avid inventor with 250 patents under his name resulting from his background in aerospace engineer in the military and later on moving across various industries to provide his new ideas.

Nike founder Phil Knight had tried on the prototype sneaker with Air (a cushioning unit filled with pressurized gasses) in 1977 and the rest is history. From then Nike had come to release the Nike Air Tailwind (1979) then Air Force 1 (1982) to the spawning of the 1987 “Revolution” campaign in which Nike Air Max 1 was launched showcasing visible Air for the first time. After this revolution Nike has been synonymous for Air and its comfort as that tradition stays alive.

Nike CEO Mark Parker reflects that “Frank Rudy holds a singular place in the pantheon of Nike innovation” and that “his relentless creativity and focus on solving problems was, in many ways, the template for how Nike pursues performance to this very day.”

Also Rudy was known to be in close contact with doctors in Ohio and New York to fund and help with cancer research which he had dedicated his life to. Frank Rudy will not be forgotten as Nike prepares to launch the “Fresh Air” campaign in 2010."
