YESSSSSSS!!!!!
I was on Air France a few weeks ago on my way to meet my girlfriend Sofia in Paris. We were then gonna head to Johannesburg. I feel asleep after watching a movie on the flight and the Air France radio is playing thru the headphones. I get by, but I can't hear shit in my waking life. Being 30% deaf in one ear and 40 in the other and all. But in my sleep I can hear everything. It's like my body forgets its handicap in my dream state. This is one of the reason why I love to sleep with an iPod playing.
Air France Surroundings is pretty good. The music selection is obscure for mainstream America, but everywhere else they seem to appreciate it.
This song comes on in my sleep and I am in my dream state saying to myself "Who. The. Fuck. Is this! This song is amazing!" I wake up and the song passes...damn.
So along the flight I am listening to this station in hopes of catching this song, so I can record it with my iPhone, and Shazam it later. (Funny how Shazam is a verb now. Sofia tells me sometimes to Shazam some songs playing)
Anyway, I catch the song again and record it. But the airplane noise is too loud to discern. Shit.
I wait. Meanwhile, I have ripped every page of the In-Flight magazine out that has anything to do with the ambient station playlist. I plan to listen to every artist until I find this song. I am that obesssed.
I am on another leg of this trip and I hear it again. This time I think I am outsmarting airplane noise and turn the headphones waaaay up to compensate. This time the sound is very distorted. Can barely make it out. But no airplane engine...Shit!
I just can't seem to find out who this is.
Fast forward 10 days and I am on the way back. I catch it again and give it shot. Again- a replay of the last attempt. I am gonna get no joy.
I leave the flight unloved by the universe.
That was some weeks ago.
Tonite I am listening to music as I am working, non-stop, allll day. Album after album. One such album is 100th Window. I love this Massive Attack album. I took my friend Cheryl with me to see them a couple years ago when she came to visit NYC. I loved the show. I have some footage somewhere. (That led to another story which may be another blog post) So I decide to see if they had anything new in the last year. They did. So I download it. Meanwhile I am on a CAN marathon. Loving it.
When it is done I play Massive Attack. 5 songs in, I hear this voice of this woman. I say to myself, I know this voice. I know this singing...It hits me. Ohhhh shit! It's that song. But it's not the version from the flight. Still, I'm happier than I've been in a long time. I Google the name of the song + Remix...and here it is...I give to you
Psyche by Massive Attack featuring Martina Topley-Bird. Amazing.
The universe rewarded me for working so hard today. Trust me when I say, it listens...
Oh this is a new Daily Obsession. I mean everyday kind of daily. My neighbors are gonna hate me...

Lyrics:
I'm looking for you in the woods tonight,
I'm looking
Looking for you with my flashlight, I'm searching
From in the high or down the ocean
And I face myself in reason
Gain the wolf
Gain the wolf
Conjure me as a child
Slipping down the wetside
Stretch up I cannot reach him
Jumping up they drag him from the water
I watch them march him into life
I watch them take him from the pale
Into the sky for your eagle eye
The sun seeds a sickle and a scythe
Ridicule they won't allow
Quench abuse and let love flower
Rip the cage out of your chest
Let the chaos fool the rest
Show without showing
What you know without knowing
Twigs snap eye / I catch no canoe only you and me
Alone on the ol' teal sea
Dissolving who we are
Call out for yesterdays destiny come
We're on a foreign shore
It was your mark of falling
I was the car still running
And when you call I'll be your shield for life
And if you feel it you will fly
The sun set a bigger me
When I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in
As I was set to fall in

A good friend of mine Sophia Baphomet put me to this many years ago. I was completely shocked at the brilliance and genuine greatness of "Kirk". This cam eon in my iTunes today and it conjured up all types of good time memories of my ATL days. Oh there is more Bill brilliance too...Check out the album "Has Been". Bag. Of. Goodies.
